Ellington E. Churchill, Jr.
Secretary, Maryland Department of General Services

Ellington Churchill, Jr. was sworn in as Secretary of the Department of General Services on July 26, 2016. He previously served as Deputy Secretary at the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. He brings extensive experience in large-scale business development, property management and contract negotiation to state government. As a proven manager and communicator able to guide collaborative efforts with both colleagues and clients, he is well-suited to oversee the Department’s diverse operations consisting of a $100 million budget and 600 employees, which provides a vital economic impact of $2.4 billion across the state and changes Maryland for the better.

Secretary Churchill began his professional career in 1994 as a project manager at Lewis Contractors, a Mid-Atlantic construction management company. He was responsible for overseeing multi-million dollar projects, including the restoration of the Baltimore Basilica. In 2006, he took a position as a senior project manager at the Maryland branch of Liberty Property Trust, a national developer of industrial and commercial office space.

He returned to Lewis Contractors in 2010 and, prior to joining the Hogan administration, he was Director of Business Development. Among his numerous responsibilities, he oversaw the preparation of all technical responses to client requests for proposals, and followed through as the lead in coordinating and facilitating company-wide responses to clients throughout project life-cycles.  Secretary Churchill built closer relationships with existing customers and provided avenues to increase company support for clients. He successfully garnered more than $100 million in projects, including the expansion of the Maryland School for the Blind and the restoration of the Washington Monument in Baltimore.

Secretary Churchill is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where he received a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Science in Architecture. 

Active in civic organizations, the Secretary has served as a trustee of Outward Bound (Baltimore Chesapeake Bay), the Peale Center for Baltimore History and Architecture, and Arundel Community Development Services, among others. He lives in Anne Arundel County with his wife and two children.


Nancy Novak - SVP of Construction - Compass Datacenters

Nancy Novak, Compass Datacenters’ SVP of Construction, has over 25 years of construction experience and has overseen the delivery of over     $3.5 billion in projects during that time. Prior to joining Compass, Nancy was the National Vice President of Operations for Balfour Beatty Construction which she joined after serving in a variety of executive positions for Hensel Phelps Construction Company. Ms. Novak is actively involved in a number of organizations dedicated to the advancement of woman in business including Above the Glass Ceiling (AGC) who are working with Fortune 500 companies to aid in the advancement of women in STEM, Women in Government Relations (WGE), Women Construction Owners and Executives (WCOE), The World Trade Center Initiative, Fortune Media’s Most Powerful Women and the National Women’s Party. Nancy is a frequent speaker on the topic and has participated in the White House Womens and Diversity in STEM forums. Nancy holds a degree in Construction Engineering and Management from San Diego State University.

Susan has worked with a wide range of individuals and organizations including the Better Business Bureau of Maryland, the Baltimore Ravens, Under Armour, Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures, Marriott Corporation, and a wide range of service based businesses. In addition, Susan teaches annually for the Institute of Organization Management, part of the US Chamber of Commerce and is an instructor for Business Learning Institute, an affiliate of the Maryland Association of CPAs. 

Prior to starting her business, Susan was in executive management with two major publishing firms, where she was responsible for revenue and profit growth throughout most of her career.

Susan is very active in the community. She is an advisory board member for Live Baltimore and has been a member of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce.  In addition, Susan works pro bono with the Maryland Small Business Resource Center teaching success strategies to aspiring entrepreneurs and with Maryland New Directions, an organization dedicated to offering no cost employment coaching for Baltimore area residents

Susan has chaired the advisory board for the University of Baltimore Merrick School of Business Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and was on the Dean’s advisory board for the Merrick School of Business.    

Susan received the 2010 Rising Star Award from the National Association of Women Business Owners Baltimore Regional Chapter and was recognized as one of the 2011 and 2013 Maryland’s Top 100 Women and the 2012 Maryland Top 100 MBEs (Minority Business Enterprise)

Susan’s key to success is in believing that everyone has unique strengths and talents, and that anything is possible as long as you align with your strengths and believe in yourself.


Holly Marrone

Organizational Development Consultant, Executive Coach, Speaker, Trainer 

The average person will spend approximately a third of their life working; it’s important for that work to be purposeful and fulfilling. Holly Marrone is a passionate Coach, Organizational Development Consultant, and Speaker who helps leaders and teams cultivate great work. Her dynamic and varied background enables her to bring a unique approach when helping others enhance skills and resolve organizational challenges. Holly graduated from Rowan University with a B.S. in Business Administration.  She has a MSOD with a concentration in Organizational Consulting and Executive Coaching from the University of Pennsylvania.  Holly is a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). In addition to managing her consulting practice, En Pointe Performance, Holly is a Director of Human Resources and Organizational Development at a major university.  She also teaches at the university-level.
